Rebuilding Peace and Hope

A year after the 2013 Zamboanga siege, almost 16 thousand evacuees still struggle with their daily living as they continue to take temporary shelter at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Grandstand in Zamboanga City on  September 9, 2014. Exactly a year after the Moro rebels attacked the city of Zamboanga, the Philippine Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross remain actively engaged in addressing the problems and challenges that the standoff caused. To date, 5,000 children were given vaccines for measles and polio; more than 146,000 hot meals have been provided to displaced individuals; unconditional cash grants benefited 40,000 people; while 10,000 individuals were enrolled in cash for work programs, and access to clean water to more than 78,000 individuals amounting to 210,000 liters in total.
